MAG Task
Force Updates and Open Invitation for Participation
Mobile
Commerce Task Force (MCTF)
Chair:
Carlson Marketing Worldwide
Co-Chair: Bango
Mobile payments
in the Off-Portal marketplace are a huge opportunity
for all industry stakeholders: from credit card
transactions to discount couponing
to loyalty rewards redemption. Unfortunately, there are
no global best practices or industry style guides in place
for Mobile Web merchants, financial service providers
and developers to support. Additionally, limited mobile
payments programs outside of On-Portal Mobile Operator
billing solutions have been sanctioned and have
succeeded in the mass market mobile industry. In 2008,
the MCTF will examine the key stakeholders in the
Mobile Payments Ecosystem, outline suggestions for full
industry collaboration in the Off-Portal marketplace
and publish one of the first global Mobile Payments
Style Guides and Best Practices. We highly recommend
joining the MAG MCTF if your company is actively
involved in the Mobile Commerce and Payments arena.
Mobile
Advertising Task Force (MATF)
Chair:
Millennial Media
Co-Chair:
Smaato
Following
the successful release of Mobile Advertising in a .mobi World
Position Paper in 2007 (http://www.advisorygroup.mobi/mobileadvertising/whitepaper.pdf),
the MATF is now exploring the proposed Calls To Action
outlined in the paper and will be active at upcoming
industry events (ad:tech and
CTIA Wireless 2008) to further educate and engage with
Mobile Advertising Ecosystem vendors to advance the
developments in the Off-Portal marketplace. The MAG
MATF invites all industry stakeholders to participate
in the task force initiative; including advertising
agencies, brands and marketers to work together with
our mobile industry vendor, developer and operator
member community.
Mobile
Multimedia Content Task Force
(MMCTF)
Chair:
Vantrix
Co-Chair: QuickPlay Media
To engage
mobile consumers with highly-entertaining, rich audio
and visually compelling mobile content, the mobile
content industry needs to provide services and support
cross all mobile device platforms, independent of
mobile network, especially in the Off-Portal
marketplace. From mobile device class recognition to
mobile operator data service plans to multimedia
content formatting, the MMCTF will examine industry
standards and best practices – in place and under
development – for Rich-Media, Audio and Streaming
Content services to publish its Off-Portal marketplace
position paper and recommended style guide in 2008.
This MAG task force is in the creation phase and will
announce its final charter before the end of Q1/2008.
Mobile
Browsing Task Force (MBTF)
Chair:
Akmin Technologies
Co-Chair:
TBC
Advances in
the W3C Mobile Web Initiative and OMA Browser
Technologies Working Group have been identified as
projects for the MBTF to keep abreast of for the next
version of the Mobile Browsing Style Guide. As these
standards and industry best practices progress in 2008,
the MBTF will continue its efforts to review and revise
Version 1.0 of the published Mobile Browsing Style
Guide accordingly, provide input to improve the open
Mobile Web testing tool ready.mobi
provided for free by dotMobi, and continue with a
series of Mobile Web development educational seminars
open to all MAG community members. Last month’s
MAG sponsored webinar “Understanding & Implementing
Mobile Web Standards” delivered by Jo Rabin,
author of W3C’s Mobile Web Best Practices and MobileOK, was a tremendous success
and available to all MAG members through the MAG Forum.
The next MBTF webinar scheduled for February 20, 2008
will be hosted by Ronan Cremin of dotMobi featuring an
overview of Mobile Web Developer Tools and Resources.

Inclusiveness - the MAG is open to all commercial actors
internationally and also embraces the agendas of these
actors equally and unequivocally.
Integration - The MAG will integrate the agendas of all actors
globally in order to provide the foundation, framework
and facility to encourage dialogue, debate and
collaboration.
Interdependence - The MAG will embrace the global mobile
Internet industry initiatives and agendas to empower
all actors through an open, cross-pollination platform.
Insurance
- The MAG guarantees transparency to all actors
globally on business, technology and commercialization
issues.

outreaching to each MAG member to confirm which task
forces they would like to participate in. Notices for
meetings will soon be sent to only those members who
have signed up to participate in a particular task
force initiative. If you would like to send this

New MAG Education Council and
Marketing Council take flight in 2008
January 2008 kicked off with the
creation of two new supporting councils within the MAG. We
encourage all our MAG members to get involved in these
exciting new initiatives and welcome new MAG members to
join our drive to build a better Mobile Web trade
association.
Led by Michael Becker, EVP Business
Development of iLoop Mobile,
the MAG Education Council (MEC) will focus on increasing the industry’s body of knowledge
of the Mobile Web, its development, use (both On-Portal
and Off-Portal, with a primary focus on Off-Portal), and
those variables that will drive its effective use and application
in any number of market sectors; including but not
limited to, sales & marketing, education, business,
customer care, and more. MAG educational programs, webinars, workshops, events and
publications will be delivered through the MEC
leadership. The MEC is currently in planning stages and
will announce its charter and agenda for 2008 by end of
Q1/2008. If you are interested participating
in MAG Educational Council programs, please contact Wendy
Holloway, MAG Association Manager at wendy.holloway@advisorygroup.mobi.
The MAG Marketing Council (MMC) held its
kick-off teleconference this week. Created from input by
our MAG community members, the MMC will become the key communications
resources for MAG internal and external communications,
public relations and industry outreach (via other
industry forums, analysts and media). The MMC is currently in planning stages and
welcomes support from all industry stakeholders to contribute
to its global mandate and efforts. For more information
about the MMC and for MAG sponsorship opportunities
